Ghee Packaging: Types and Equipment

Table of Contents

Common packaging for ghee are glass containers, plastic jars and composite flexible pouches to ensure protection from oxidation, moisture and light.

Are you looking for matching equipment such as ghee filling machine, packaging machine, capping machine, etc.?

let’s dive into the below-

What is Ghee?

Ghee is a kind of dairy product. It is usually prepared by simmering butter, skimming the impurities on the surface, then pouring and reserving the clear liquid fat while discarding the solid residue that settles at the bottom. Its smoke point is higher than that of regular butter, making it ideal for frying and sautéing.

The Overview of Ghee Packaging

Good barrier properties are naturally one of the primary considerations for ghee packaging. Exposure to light, air and moisture can damage the quality of your product and cause your ghee to go rancid. The proper ghee packaging can protect your product from these external influences.

Clear labeling is also essential for ghee packaging, and must include a lot of information such as product name, expiration date, nutritional information, etc.

Types of Common Ghee Packaging

Glass Containers

Glass jars are a very popular packaging solution for ghee. They provide excellent protection against air and moisture. Glass is inert and unreactive, does not react with ghee in any way. The high transparency of glass is also one of the reasons for its popularity. It can display your products well.

However, you also need to consider the fragile nature of glass. The risk of damage during transportation and loading is higher than other packaging, which increases transportation costs. And ghee in glass is easily affected by light, which accelerates the oxidation process and damages the quality of the ghee.

Tins

Durable and strong barrier properties are distinctive characteristics of tins. Tins are coated to prevent rusting. They provide excellent protection against light, air and moisture. Effectively extend the shelf life of your ghee. They are less likely to be damaged during loading and transportation, providing good protection for your ghee products.

Plastic Jars

Plastic cans are lightweight and shatter-resistant, reducing your shipping costs. Their sturdiness and durability appeal to many consumers. The common plastic containers for packaging ghee are PET jars and HDPE jars.

Flexible Pouches

Very economical ghee packaging method using mainly plastic and multi-layer laminated film materials. Highly customizable, such as with handles and spouts for consumer convenience. Lightweight and easy to carry. The convenience of the flexible pouch is one of the points that consumers value. The large and beautiful printing on the package also attracts customers to a certain extent.

Ceramic Jars

Elegant and heat-resistant, looks very classy. And ceramic jars are opaque, protecting ghee from light exposure. Some customers call it a practical and attractive option for ghee packaging.

Types of Ghee Packaging Machines

Ghee Filling Machine

Ghee has a certain viscosity, so the ghee filling machine must have the ability to handle viscous products. You need to choose the right filling machine to handle the unique consistency of ghee. For example, piston filling machines and rotary lobe pump filling machines.

  • The Piston Filling Machine: The ghee moves from the hopper to the cylinder and then from the cylinder to the nozzle by the movement of the piston and the rotation of the valve, and it is then filled into the container through the nozzle. It has high precision.
  • The Rotary Lobe Pump Filling Machine: Like piston pumps, rotary lobe pumps are also a type of positive displacement pump. This type of pump relies on its positive displacement mechanism to maintain constant flow rates. As lobes rotate, cavities are formed by the space between rotating lobes. Fluid gets sucked into these spaces during rotation from inlet side towards outlet side hence maintaining continuous movement until discharged from the system.

To ensure high efficiency, the clearances between the rotors must be microscopic.

The pumping action of rotary lobe pumps is very gentle, and the low shear pumping allows it to handle products without damaging them, which preserve the high quality of your ghee products.

VFFS  Ghee Pouch Packaging Machine

  • With a touch screen HMI panel and PLC.
  • Easy operation and occupies less floor space.
  • Packs 70-85 pouches per minute.

First, forming the pouch, then filling the pouch using a filling machine. The pouches are then sealed and cut into individual pouches.

Ghee Premade Pouche Packaging Machine

  • Suitable for stand up pouch, zipper pouch, spout pouch and other premade pouches.
  • Easy to operate, featured a PLC touch-screen control system.
  • Easy to adjust, you can change to different pouches in 10 minutes.

To briefly describe the workflow. First, feeding the pouches, then the coding machine is used to print the codes, then the pouches are opened, and then fill the ghee product into the pouches with a filling machine. After the filling, seal the pouches.

Ghee Jar Packaging Machine

Filling your ghee into the jars automatically. After filling, the machine will cap the jars. The capping head has constant twisting movement, ensuring the capping quality without damaging caps. The machine includes an automatic labeling system that can accurately label your containers. Also equipped with a code printer.

Capping Machine

Responsible for screwing the cap onto the container. The principle is simple: a set of capping heads are used to land on the ghee container and screw the cap onto the ghee container. The capping machine is very precise, applying the correct torque for each cap, which helps prevent the risk of the cap not being completely sealed because the torque is too low, or the cap or container being damaged because the torque is too high. Moreover, the capping machine is very fast and efficient, and can capping multiple containers at once, which helps increase your output. Common types of capping machines include the Ropp Capping Machine, Automatic Spindle Screw Capping Machine, and Automatic 6 Head Rotary Capping Machine.

Labeling Machine

The ghee container moves on the conveyor belt, and the ghee labeling machine detects the container through the sensor, and then the labeling machine applies the label to the container.

Coding Machine

The coding machine is used to imprint information such as the batch number and manufacturing date on the ghee container or label.

Conclusion

Choose the right ghee packaging and packaging machine for your ghee business to keep the quality of your ghee product and meet the market demand. If you want to know more about ghee packaging solutions, please contact us.
